Dresser Detox

One of my New Year's resolutions was to organize and finally finish decorating our apartment.  We have been in SF for over a year, but I still find myself with a long list of projects I need to complete.
I have been meaning to organize my dresser for months.  Living in an apartment with less than ideal storage space in the bathroom, has made my dresser multi-purpose and I use it for a vanity as well.  Because of this, I let my jewelry and beauty products take over, resulting in a cluttered mess.

First, I needed to organize all of my jewelry.  I took a wire hanging rack which I mounted on a wall in my closet to hang some of my necklaces.  Now I can find them all and they aren't just taking up space on my dresser.

Second, I purchased a jewelry box (here) to organize and hold the rest of my jewelry.

Next, I replaced the catch-all basket where I threw all of my makeup and beauty products with a clear drawer organizer (here).  This way I can separate different products and find everything quickly in the morning when I am rushing out the door before work.

Last but not least, I finally hung the mirror I scored at a Pottery Barn sample sale on the wall.  This also cleared up space, since before it was just resting on the dresser.

With these few changes my dresser now looks clean and clutter free.  I feel so much more organized and getting ready for the day is always a little bit easier!

A Few Good Skirts

I am skirt obsessed right now.  I have been eyeing various tutu inspired tulle skirts and searching for the perfect silk maxi skirt.  I just purchased a pretty pleated midi skirt.  Even though I have been on the prowl for new skirts I have also been pulling out some of my favorite skirts from my closet.  I am a huge fan of Lauren Moffatt and this red and gold jacquard skirt is one of the many great pieces of hers I have collected over the years.  I love the cut of this skirt, with its high waist, full bell shape, and the pockets!

Shirt Styling

I always find myself covering sleeveless blouses and dresses with blazers or cardigans, to make them more weather or work appropriate.  I always feel more comfortable when I have extra layers.  To mix it up a little bit, I have started layering long sleeve blouses under dresses.  I find this option looks more styled and is just as comfortable.

Winter Whites

Many people think white is a taboo color to wear in the winter.  I think if you go with the right texture and fabrication whites and neutrals look fab year round.  A cozy cream sweater, with white denim, and neutral suede booties makes for a simple and pretty combo especially in January!

Capes and Cap-Toes

Last year, January was surprisingly and pleasantly warm.  This year it is cold!  Sometimes it is hard to beat the winter blues.  Bundling up isn't always the most fashionable of practices.  I decided to freshen things up with a cape sweater.  Camel and black is one of my favorite color combinations, so I went for a head to toe look, literally!

Golden Globe Glamour

The Golden Globes are my favorite award show.  Mainly because the mix of television and film brings out double the star power and double the fabulous fashion.  This year's gowns did not disappoint. The red carpet was filled with lots of beautifully embellished dresses and unexpected colors including white! It was hard picking my favorite looks, but alas, I narrowed down to my top ten.

 10. Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen

 9. Nicole Richie in Naeem Khan

 8. Jennifer Garner in Vivienne Westwood

 7. Mrs. Taylor...I mean Connie Britton in Kaufman Franco

6. Anne Hathaway in Chanel

 5. Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Couture

 4. Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen

3. Emily Blunt in Michael Kors

2. Jessica Chastain in Calvin Klein

1. Michelle Dockery in Alexandre Vauthier

Borrowed from the Boys

I was recently in J. Crew shopping the Men's sale rack for shirts with my husband.  I was pulling options for him when I came across this pink and green mini plaid.  I loved it but knew he would never wear something like that.  So, I grabbed a small for myself.  The color combo is so cute, I figured I could put my own girly twist on it!
