Tis the Season for Sale Shopping

Thanksgiving celebrations are upon us!  I look forward to this time of year for many reasons.  I love seeing my family and taking the time to be thankful for our blessings.  I truly enjoy all things pumpkin, so I plan on eating pumpkin pie all weekend long.  I also like to start my holiday shopping and taking advantage of the many Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales.  I personally am not one to wake up early on Friday and brave the retail stores.  I prefer to stay in the comfort of my own home, and on my computer hitting up the many online sale events.  Here is a round up of some of my favorite online shopping destinations and the deals they are offering this week!  Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family, eating lots of festive food, and practicing some smart sale shopping!

Wine Walk

Over the weekend we headed up to Wine Country for a quick getaway.  On the way back to the city, we stopped at a picturesque vineyard for a wine tasting and a moment to soak up the sun and beautiful views.  One of the many things I love about bay area weather, is a maxi dress literally works year round.  Last time I posted in this maxi dress, it was in the summer barefoot on the beach, as seen here. For a crisp late fall weekend in Healdsburg I layered on booties, long sleeves, a hat, and I was ready to go!  I also have to give a shout out to Show Me your Mumu, I am a big fan of their clothing, but an added bonus is the fabric legitimately does not wrinkle.  Which is, of course, perfect for a weekend adventure!

Dress: Show Me Your Mumu Kiersten Dress- similar Here and Here
Top: American Apparel Long Sleeve Pocket Tee
Hat: American Apparel Wool Floppy Hat also like this one
Booties: Same Edelman Petty Bootie
Bag: Foley + Corinna Disco City Bag

Sweater Weather

When it's cold outside, all I ever want to do is throw on a cozy sweater.  I am a big fan of oversized sweaters and sweaters you can layer over outfits, as seen here.  But, I also like a simple crewneck that can be thrown on with pretty much anything.  For a day of wine tasting in Healdsburg I layered a simple navy boatneck sweater with a button down and boyfriend jeans, which are a weekend staple for me.  A good basic crewneck sweater really can go with anything and can be dressed up or down.  And of course, it is great extra layer of warmth!

Shirt: J. Crew Secret Wash Shirt similar Here and Here
Sweater: Gap Boatneck Pullover
Denim: J. Crew- similar Here also love these Current/Elliott Boyfriend Jeans
Shoes: J. Crew Collection Loafers, love their Studded Cap Toe Loafers
Bag: Foley + Corinna City Disco Bag

School's Out

Pretty plaids are everywhere right now.  I currently have my eye on a few unexpectedly perfect plaid jackets. When I saw this cute shift with pockets from Zara, I knew it was a must have for the season. I couldn't help but pair the schoolgirl like plaid with a sweet pair of Mary Janes.  I also like the simple shift shape because it is easy to wear with tights and flats, boots, or heels!
Since I am a big fan of the plaid trend this season, I have included a round up of some of my favorites around the web below...

Dress: Zara Checked Dress
Tights: AA Opaque Tights in Midnight also a fan of HUE Opaque Tights
Shoes: J. Crew Milo Mary Janes also love their Janey Satin Mary Janes
Jewelry: Bauble Bar, CC Skye, Margaret Elizabeth, Catbird

Layered Lady

My autumn wardrobe is all about layers.  I know I have talked about this before, but I have become a little more unorthodox with my layering as I have become accustomed to the weather in SF.  Instead of always grabbing a coat I like to layer two sweaters.  Or finish off the outfit with a cute hat.  It is fun to experiment with ways to bundle up without needing to put on a winter coat.  Since it never really gets below the forties, and even in the middle of winter it can be sixty degrees in the sun, getting creative with layers is crucial.  My newest fall purchase was a wool hat.  When recently shopping for hats, I came across so many cute options, like this Genie Jordan Fedora by Eugenia Kim, this Floppy Brim Hat from Nordstrom,  this Bailey for J. Crew Felt Hat, or this Wool Rain Fedora by Eric Javits.  I went with a floppy brim option in a pretty Merlot hue.  It's a great fall color and perfect for adding a layer of warmth!

Sweater 1: ASOS- old, also like this Tunic Sweater
Sweater 2: J. Crew, their Open Cardigan and this ASOS Long Cardigan are also good layering options
Pants: J. Crew Pixie Pant
Booties: Loeffler Randall Nanette Cap Toe, love this season's LR Felix Booties
Hat: American Apparel Floppy Wool Hat
Jewelry: Bauble Bar, Gorjana, Margaret Elizabeth, Catbird

The Sale of Sales

After living in NYC for five years I became accustomed to going to seasonal designer sample sales, and getting amazing pieces at even more amazing prices.  There are many things I miss about Manhattan, but sample sales are definitely near the top of the list.  Luckily Gilt City brings the next best thing, their biannual Warehouse Sale.  I was lucky enough to go to the friends and family event for both the fall and spring sales last year.  This year's San Francisco fall sale is upon us, it kicks off on Friday November 22, and of course I am very excited!
For all you SF readers who don't have your tickets yet, there are still a few tickets left.  You can click HERE to snatch them up!  For those of you who already have tickets, the gals at Gilt City were nice enough to share some tricks and tips to help you succeed in scoring some major finds!  I have included these insider tips and some of the pretty pieces I have picked up at previous sales below.  I hope to see all of the SF readers there, and I wish you happy sale shopping!

Dress One: Badgley Mischka, last seen HERE also like this Kate Spade Rumer Dress with collar detail

Dress Two: Ali Ro, last seen HERE also like this Maison Scotch color block dress

Dress Three: Alexia Admor, least seen HERE also love her Zig Zag Sequin Dress

Dress Four: Corey Lynn Calter, last seen HERE also like her Rooftop Garden Party Dress

Insider Tips...
  • Arrive early:  Just as you would for any sample sale, arrive early!  No matter what session you come to, be sure to get there with ample time. This ensures a full shopping experience, and it's best to view the merchandise when it’s most organized.
  • Reduce your drag:  Come prepared to shop – we require coat check and large bag check, so bring a small purse or wallet that you can keep your credit cards and ID in. A small wallet or cross-body bag will leave your hands free to peruse the racks, or sip a cocktail! Also - if you dress in light layers, it will also allow you to try clothes on easily, and you may even decide to not wait for a fitting room!
  • Think Ahead: Don't be afraid to shop for future seasons.  You'll find that there are not-to-be-missed deals for every occasion.  It's a great chance to score designer ski-ware or that perfect glam dress for the holiday season.
  • Have an open mind: The most exciting part of the Warehouse Sale is the element of surprise! While you may have certain items in mind that you’re really focused on purchasing, take your time, look through the racks and filter through the shoes and accessories with an open mind.  This is usually the time when the magic happens and you'll find yourself going home with some great steals that you might otherwise not have found!
  • And Remember Plastic!  No cash, so bring your debit or credit cards!

Primary Colors

It is officially tights weather in SF.  Besides winter coats, something I definitely put away for the spring and summer months are tights. Now that I live somewhere with a lack of seasonal weather changes, it is one of the few things I still put away and break out when the late fall crisp weather hits.  I like to expand beyond the standard black option with grays, maroon, and navy.  I paired an old Lauren Moffatt dress trimmed in primary colors, a navy collar and green belt, with navy tights and red clutch.  Of course I topped off this outfit with some of my favorite Tiffany Chou pieces.  When I met up with her in NYC, I picked up a pair of her All I Hear is You earrings.  I love how these pretty gold shell earrings have a vintage feel as oversized studs.  They also go very well with my old standby gold TC urchin bangles.  Tiffany's statement gold pieces are so easy to pair with any outfit and have become go to pieces for me!

Dress: Lauren Moffatt -old, similar options below

Shoes: LK Bennett Sybila Pump also love in Tortoise Shell
Clutch: Mark and Graham Everyday Leather Zip Pouch

Chicly Chronicles : Sea Shells by the Sea Shore

While I was in NYC a couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of visiting with the wonderful Tiffany Chou.  For those of you who are not familiar with Tiffany and her designs you should go check out her website ASAP!  She is an incredibly talented Maui girl making her way as a jewelry designer in Manhattan.  It was so fun to chat with Tiffany, visit her in home studio, and play with some of her jewels!  I grew up with Tiffany on Maui and am so impressed with the brand she is building and the way she mixes her love of the ocean into her designs.
When I saw Tiffany, I did notice she has become a true New Yorker, rocking head to toe black simply accessorized with beautiful gold jewels from her own line.  Keep reading to hear and see more about Tiffany's style!

CC: When did you know you wanted to be a jewelry designer?
TC: To be honest I didn't know until right before I started my line! I had been making jewelry as a hobby ever since I was a kid, but did not know that little hobby would turn into a career. When I moved to New York everything kind of led me in that direction and I went with it.

CC: Is there a piece of jewelry you don't leave the house without?
TC: I am usually always wearing my 25" Here Sharky Sharky necklace. I love the length and that it is small and delicate. It's not too overpowering and can go with pretty much anything.

CC: How would you describe your personal style?
TC: I would say my style is beach-cottage meets city-prep.  I love a plain white T, stripes, sparkle, and colorful heels. All topped off with a TC accessory of course!
In high school I would dress up for no good reason other than to go to math class, and people would ask where I was going. The great thing about living in New York is that you can throw on heels just to pick up some cat food and no one will think twice.

CC: Is there something in your closet you wear on repeat?
TC: I recently purchased some leggings from Zara and I've been wearing those out almost every weekend. You can dress them down or up and I love the thick waistband because it holds everything together.

CC: Where are your favorite places to shop? Online or in store?
TC: Both.  But I love shopping in New York because you get to see how everyone else is dressed and all the differences in personal style. My favorite places to shop right now are Zara, J. Crew and Lululemon. I really adore Lulu's line of not-so-active-wear wear.

CC: It is pretty amazing that you run and manage your own brand!  What advice would you give to others trying to start their own business? Or what was the best advise you received over the years?
TC: Thank you! My advice would be to have goals, short and long term, and always keep them in your mind. Be kind, stay positive and work hard. "Don't let anyone tell you what you can or can't do." I've heard that from several great places, Lost and my sample maker.

Here is a round up of Tiffany's jewelry seen in this post...
Coral Kisses Charm Bracelet
In the Rough Bracelet
Whitecap Bangle
Syrena Bangle (I have this one and LOVE it!)
Anchor + Chum Ring
All I Hear is You Earrings (I just got these and am a big fan)
Breakers Earrings

Check back later this week to see how I style some of my favorite Tiffany Chou pieces, old and new!

Friday Favorites : Neutral Nails

I am definitely a fan of seasonal nail polish colors.  I love to bring out bright fun colors like hot pink and coral in the summer.  I often wear deep gray and burgundy in the fall and winter.  But, usually I am drawn to colors that work year round.  I have never been in favor of really pale pinks or almost clear polishes, but I love pretty tan, beige, and mauve options.  I like to wear interesting colors that still act as a nice neutral.  A good neutral nail is feminine with a touch of interest!  For today's Friday Favorites I have included a round up of some of my favorite neutral, all season, and all occasion nail polish colors!
