Winter Wonderland

We headed up north last week to spend Christmas with family.  Leaving California, meant packing heavy sweaters and actual winter coats.  It also meant some good skiing and playing in the snow!  I recently invested in a new winter coat by one of my all time favorite designers Lauren Moffatt.  Over the years I have collected a bunch of her pieces, and was so happy to get my hands on one of her coat's this season!  I lived in it while we were in Idaho, and as the weather gets continuously colder in SF, I know it will be put to good use.

I hope everyone is enjoying a happy and healthy holiday!  I know we had a wonderful time with family over the Christmas holiday, and are looking forward to ringing the in the new year!

Sweater Weather

For the Thanksgiving holiday, we headed down to the desert.  We had a wonderful turkey day dinner with family.  For casual holiday parties I always like to pair a comfortable sweater with a  cute skirt or dress.  Since it was relatively warm and sunny, a simple silk shirt dress with a coordinating over sized sweater was perfect.  If I was somewhere colder I would have thrown on a pair of tights.  This combo is great for a relaxed party at home where there will definitely be eating and lounging involved!  Good news, J. Crew is having 40% off of sweaters right now with code GIVETHIS.  Happy Shopping!

Party Dressed

It is officially holiday party season!  With a few events coming up, I thought I would share some holiday event attire ideas.  First, the classic party dress.  For a work event, pair it with a blazer and simple shoes.  For a little more glam, skip the blazer and add some sparkle!  For seasonal soirées, It is fun to keep things bold and bright, and don't be afraid to pile on the jewels.  Kate Spade has some adorable party ready dresses, and for the next couple of days they are offering 25% off!

Wrap Me Up

Sometimes investing in an iconic piece is a wardrobe must.  I would say in my generation the DVF Wrap Dress is definitely an iconic piece.  Diane von Furstenberg actually celebrated their 40th anniversary of the wrap dress this year.  These days they have many variations, long, short, form fitting, full skirts, in many prints and patterns.  It may come as no surprise that one of these dresses has been on my wish list for a while.  I used to brave her NYC sample samples with the one goal of finding a great wrap dress. As a perpetual sale shopper, I freaked out a little bit when I found the exact dress I had been drooling over on Gilt at a great price!  That dress is the Abigail Maxi Dress.  Something about the long length just takes this iconic and classic piece to another level!

Hat Trick

Last fall I dipped my toes in the water of the world of hats, with a floppy felt hat, last seen Here and Here.  This fall on my wish list was a new hat.  I looked for a while trying to find the right one.  I have been a fan of Eugenia Kim for a while, but was never quite ready to invest in one of her pieces.  For some reason I have always thought hat preferences are a very personal thing.  And since hats are a new experiment, I took my time in picking the perfect new hat! When I saw this navy wool fedora with an unexpected metallic band detail, I knew I had found my new favorite purchase! Even better, I snatched it up during a friends and family sale on Shopbop a few weeks ago.  I plan on wearing this hat on repeat through the fall and winter months!

Keep it Simple

When we headed to Hawaii last week I knew I needed  an outfit for a nice evening out with my family.  When I don't know the location or exact event, I tend to play things a little bit safe.  A very good investment for every girl's closet is a pretty black maxi dress.  Like this T-Bags Los Angeles dress.  I love the necklace halter detail and the nice jersey fabric, both make it the perfect dress to throw in a carry-on bag.  As I was putting together this post, I discovered that T-Bags has quite the assortment of black maxi dresses.  All simple and all cute!  I have included a round up at the bottom of this post, with some bonus romper picks!

Beach Please

I am happy to admit that when given the opportunity, I enjoy nothing more than being a beach bum.  We headed back to Maui for a very quick trip to celebrate my Dad's birthday.  When I am home, especially for only a few days, I make sure to get in at least an hour of beach time everyday.  We were in Hawaii for all of 3.5 days and we managed to enjoy 4 different beaches.  Not too shabby!

For a quick trip home, I make sure to pack a few cover-ups, bathing suits, and a sunhat!  A flowing sundress, like this Pink Stitch Resort Maxi found in Shopbop's ONE by Boutique, is perfect for a day on Maui.  When a trip to the beach lands in the middle of a day running around the island, I always opt for a cover-up that also doubles as a dress.  A good day on Maui for me consists of a coffee run or tasty meal in Paia, beach time in Wailea, and visiting friends and family wherever on the island they may be!

But First Fall

If you are an avid or even an occasional reader of this blog, you probably have realized by now that I am a devoted sale shopper.  I hardly ever buy anything at full price.  I am always looking for a good deal, whether on seasonal markdown items, during friends & family events, on Gilt, or at a sample sale.  Recently J. Crew has been having constant compelling sales.  There are a ton of great fall ready pieces on their sale site, and for the last few weeks all sale items have been at an additional markdown.  I recently bought a few sweaters and pants at an additional 40% off the sale price.  It reminds me of my J. Crew days and taking advantage of a generous employee discount!

Piñas + Vino

We headed up to Healdsburg this weekend.  It was beautiful, warm, sunny, and filled with good food and wine.  For a day in this endless summer weather, I wore a sundress from SF's own, Amour Vert.  It proved to be comfortable and cute, which was perfect for a daytime adventure to wine country!  Being a Maui girl, I am a sucker for anything pineapple or island inspired.  So I obviously couldn't resist this navy and pink pineapple print in such a great simple silhouette.  Happy Summer SF!
