Beach Walks

This post is actually from a few weeks ago during our very first morning on Kauai.  We were still jet lagged so we were up early and ready to start a full day.  Our first hotel was in Poipu on this beautiful beach.  We headed out from our room for a walk along the water.  Since it was early in the morning it felt like we had the beach to ourselves.  It was so pretty and peaceful.  Whenever I am going for a walk on the beach I usually bring some sort of wrap or pareo.  I do this because they are multi functioning.  If it's a little breezy out, I can use it as another coverup or scarf.  If I decide to layout or sit on the sand, I can use it as a beach blanket.  If it decide to jump in the water, I can use it as a make shift towel and coverup while I am drying off.  I have collected a few good ones over the years.  This pretty floral print pareo I got when we were in Tahiti for our honeymoon.  I have a couple others just like it, and I never head to the beach without one!

Picnic Ready

Summertime in San Francisco never ceases to confuse me.  Everyday in the city seems to have pockets of nice sunny weather, but one has to be prepared for cloudy, windy, and generally chilly weather in the morning and evening.  I have had to become creative with my summer wardrobe.  For an afternoon of sitting in the park, I took an off the shoulder dress and turned it into a belted tunic over jeans.  When the wind picked up I covered it with a warm shawl collar sweater.  I like to wear summer appropriate clothing, like a little sundress, and add on layers to be prepared for the fluctuating and temperamental SF summer climate.  This helps remind me that it is summertime, even if the city weather doesn't feel like it!  I will make sure to have another blog post soon with this cute Re:named dress actually worn as a dress!

Self Shade

Being home on Maui is always amazing, but this trip in particular we lucked out with some really incredible weather.  The north shore of Maui can be very windy, which is why it is famous for some of it's windsurfing spots.  For morning beach walks or enjoying the afternoon by the water, the strong winds can be problematic.  While we were there the wind had died down and the water was absolutely gorgeous.

I used to never wear hats.  As I have gotten older, I have realized the importance of giving my skin a break from the sun.  Now I never go to the beach without some sort of hat.  It also helps that wide brimmed hats are in style now and it is easy to find cute ones!  I picked up this black straw hat from J. Crew right before our trip and got some good use out of it!  There is not a lot to say about my everyday beach attire, a cute cover up, sandals, and a hat!  Not much to it!

Urban Adventure

One of my favorite things about living in cities like New York and San Francisco, there is always an undiscovered area to explore.  It is so fun to pick a new place and plan a mini adventure.  My friend Carrie and I like to call these our "urban adventures".  Over the weekend we headed over to the Mosaic Staircase, or 16th Avenue Steps, in the Inner Sunset.  Carrie has an affinity for urban staircases so of course we had to check these out! The staircase itself was pretty awesome, but the best part was climbing to the top and getting an amazing 360 degree view of the city.  If you live in SF or are planning a visit, I would recommend adding this spot to your list of things to do!
For our little adventure I had to pull out my high top sneakers.  I bought these Nikes on sale at J. Crew thinking I was a little bit crazy, but I am so glad I did.  Besides the fact that I love them, they are perfect for walking around the city, and worked well for trekking up the staircase.  During the slightly warmer months I get a lot of use out of my jean jacket, which is a relatively new staple for me.  I never used to wear jean jackets, but in the last year I have worn mine a lot.  It really is the perfect extra layer to wear over dresses and skirts.

I also wanted to give a quick shout out to Carrie for being guest photographer on this post! Thank you!

Flirty Fringe

Over the years I have collected quite a few bathing suits and coverups. So in reality, I am usually all set when packing for a trip back home to Maui.  Alas, I still used this vacation as an excuse to add to my coverup collection.  I have been eyeing the brightly colored SUNDRESS coverups for a while.  I love the loose long sleeve silhouette and the tassel fringe trimmed low back.  It is definitely my new favorite coverup, and was perfect for a beautiful double beach day!

Stripes and Sparkles

The main reason for our recent trip to Maui was to attend a friend's wedding.  Normally for a beachside wedding I would have gone for a floral or brightly colored dress.  For this particular event I was told to wear gold or blush, and sequins were welcome.  At first I went searching for a pretty blush maxi dress.  After failing to find something I liked, I decided to go searching through my closet.  I pulled out this Alexia Admor sequined dress, I bought a couple of years ago, and had an Ah Ha moment.  Why didn't I think of this before?  It's fun, comfortable, mainly gold, and has sequins!  To make it more Maui appropriate I added a floral clutch and tan sandals.  This reminded me that sometimes shopping in your own closet, can be the most fun and the best bet!

Easy Breezy

This past week we had an amazing time in Hawaii.  We started the week exploring the island of Kauai.  I had not visited Kauai in about ten years and my husband had never been.  So we made sure to see as much of the island as we could.  We ended the two amazing days on the North Shore of the island in Hanalei.  The North Shore of Kauai is absolutely beautiful.  We had so much fun hiking, exploring, and relaxing in the sun!  For a week on the islands I packed coverups, bikinis, sandals, and a good beach tote.  Not much more needed than that!
